The review of the White Card training was one of three blitzes said Chief Commissioner Chris Robinson. The other two yet to come this financial year with training in the aged and community care sector and inappropriate practices and marketing by registered training organisations (RTO's) also coming under the microscope.

“Strategic reviews are the next stage of VET regulation in Australia and ASQA is aiming to undertake three reviews each year,” Mr Robinson said.

With the construction industry being one of the largest employers in Australia, The White Card training program exists to ensure those starting a career in this huge industry get the knowledge they need to stay safe at work.

The concern with the white card training is the quality and content of the training and assessment provided by some RTO's.

The Australian Skills Quality Authority have been receiving reports that the White Card training is simply too short to give participants the knowledge and experience they need. They have also been told that the training being offered by some RTO's is of poor quality.

Mr Robinson said a strategic management committee had established to oversee the review.
